I have learnt about Contact Improvisation (CI) through the friends of my friends, and after I had watched the video on the internet, I could no longer be indifferent whenever someone would mention CI.

«Contact improvisation (CI) is a dance technique in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploration through movement improvisation." Contact Improvisation is a form of dance improvisation». This is the definition of CI from Wikipedia. The phrase «Contact Improvisation» is intriguing in itself.

Almost everybody to whom I mentioned the subject of my project wanted to know more about it. At some point, I gave up on trying to explain to people what CI is and told them to google it. Later, to my surprise, I discovered that «google»doesn’t explain much, but on the contrary, it only confuses the information about this dance format even more.

To be honest I didn’t have much of a clue myself about CI before the start of the photo shoot. Everything has started getting clear for me when I finally came to one of the sessions with only one goal — to photograph (and only photograph).

Easy friendly atmosphere, created by the CI instructor Anya, enveloped all the participants. Then, the next moment I realized I was dancing with a partner. Only by addressing my strong will was I able to remember about my camera.

From what I could understand about CI is that by some unconceivable means it takes you to the other world, it takes you home, where we are not separate, where we are one, where we have something to say without words.

After the sessions, we usually all sit around silently smiling.

Thank you Anya.
